You wouldn't look for the cheapest eye surgeon, you shouldn't shop for the cheapest living thing. HOWEVER, if you can't spend a grand on a kitten, look for a breed specific rescue. Keep in mind that if you're properly caring for ANY cat, you're going to be spending quite a bit in vet bills and food anyway.
